CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES

Drugs and other chemicals that are considered “controlled substances” under the Controlled Substance Act (CSA) are regulated based on their potential for abuse and likelihood of addiction. Mass General Brigham depends on you to manage these substances according to regulations and policy to prevent them from being stolen, diverted, lost, or used or disposed of improperly. The use of controlled substances is regulated by federal and state regulation. In addition, all Mass General Brigham researchers must adhere to the Use of Controlled Substances in Non-Human Research policy. Each hospital has created an individualized standard operating procedure to guide researchers through required processes around the use of controlled substances.
