MASS GENERAL BRIGHAM RCR PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

The Mass General Brigham Responsible Conduct of Research Program is committed to providing the highest quality of instruction and training in responsible conduct of research to the entire Mass General Brigham community. The importance of educating our research community in the responsible conduct of research extends beyond just fulfilling federal requirements. It fosters a culture of integrity and ethical practice in research.

The Mass General Brigham RCR Training Program is required of all

  • Trainees, postdoctoral fellows, students and career-development recipients under award mechanisms (e.g., T32, F32, K08) identified in the NIH notice dated November 24, 2009

Failure to complete the program in accordance with the information contained on this web site may result in termination of support by the MGB hospital that has received the award.

RCR TRAINING PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

The Mass General Brigham RCR Training Program consists of two parts:

  • Mass General Brigham Seminar – offered four times per year
  • Participation in no less than four lecture/discussion offerings identified as eligible for RCR credit.

The Mass General Brigham RCR seminar must be attended within 12-months of the NIH or NSF appointment date or, if a direct award, e.g., an F or K award, as of the award effective date. The lecture component must be completed within 12 months of attendance at the Mass General Brigham RCR seminar.

Instruction in RCR must be undertaken at least once during each career stage, and at a frequency of no less than once every four years. Those individuals with four or more years of training support can meet the additional requirement by attending a Mass General Brigham RCR Refresher Seminar.

RCR ATTESTATION

Upon completion of the program, trainees are required to submit an Attestation Form in RedCap to notify the Mass General Brigham Research Compliance Office they have fulfilled the NIH requirement.  You should download and retain a PDF copy from RedCap confirming your submission of your attestation as documentation for the NIH if requested.

SENIOR FELLOWS AND CAREER AWARD RECIPIENTS

Senior fellows and career award recipients supported by F33, K02, K03 and K24 mechanisms may fulfill the RCR requirement by participating as lecturers or discussion leaders in a hospital-based RCR-eligible course or serving as faculty for the Mass General Brigham RCR seminar.

Senior fellows and career award recipients supported by the above-referenced NIH award mechanisms who are interested in teaching a BWH RCR-eligible course should contact Allison Moriarty. Those interested in teaching a MGH RCR-eligible course should contact Kele Piper. Senior fellows and career award recipients interested in participating in the Mass General Brigham Seminar as faculty should contact Heather Cosier.
