COURSE DESCRIPTION

Mass General Brigham Research Compliance has developed mandatory online training for Principal Investigators (PIs) that provides basic information on a variety of topics to help PIs navigate through a complex regulatory environment. This course, Research Misconduct Prevention, is focused on scientific misconduct requirements for research funded by Public Health Service agencies – e.g., NIH, CDC and FDA – which provide the majority of MGB federal research funding. In addition to definitions and regulatory and policy requirements, the course also identifies PI responsibilities when a research misconduct allegation is brought to their attention, as well as best practices for fostering a culture of compliance and integrity within their labs and research groups. From both an ethical and regulatory perspective, PIs are responsible for the scientific integrity of research produced at MGB institutions and for instilling research ethics in the students, fellows, and junior investigators they supervise. All members of the research community – Co-PIs, Research Associates, Postdoctoral Fellows, Graduate Students, and Research Administrators – are encouraged to complete the program. Upon successful completion, physicians are eligible to receive Continuing Medical Education (CME) credit.
